Devlin Bedevils โ€™em!

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Sunny weather finally greeted the racers at Raceway Park on April 9. After rain hit before and during the last couple of events, the showers that preceded Sundayโ€™s race may have scared away some racers, but those who did attend were treated to excellent racing conditions. After a sloppy practice, Mickey Kessler and the track crew got to work, and after a short delay, they had created a top-notch track for the racers.

In the first Collegeboy moto, Honda rider Jason Hess grabbed the holeshot and jumped out to an early lead, followed by Jeremy Weniger and Pete Devlin (241). The Suzuki-mounted Devlin battled briefly with Kawasaki jockey Weniger, eventually going by just past the big double in the center of the track. The Monmouth Cycles-sponsored Devlin set his sights on Hess and tried to run the leader down, but he ran out of time. Hess took the win, followed by Devlin in second and Weniger in third.

The second moto saw Hess again grab the early lead, followed by Devlin and Weniger. This time Devlin ran the leader down and got by him going up the staircase section of the track, but then he got caught behind a lapped rider, and Hess got back around. However, Devlin wasnโ€™t about to let the moto and overall slip away; he got by the Honda rider at the bottom of the โ€œPlungeโ€ and made the pass stick. Devlin went on to take the moto and overall win, followed by Hess and Weniger.

In 250cc Novice racing, Parlin, New Jersey, Honda rider Greg Ziola grabbed the holeshot in both motos on his way to two moto victories and the overall. He was followed across the line in both motos by KTM rider D.J. Mowery and Suzuki rider George Dennis.

Bel-Ray Lubricants-sponsored Curt Beloy grabbed the early lead in the first Over 25 Expert moto, but he was eventually passed by RRP Honda rider Ty Wallace and Greg Pamart. Wallace held on for the victory, with Pamart settling for second and Beloy taking third.

Holeshot specialist Frankie Eckel grabbed the lead in the second moto, with Wallace and McIlvaine in tow. MSR/Scott-backed Wallace went on for the victory, followed by Pamart and Dragon Optical-sponsored Richie Zupko in third. Beloy went down in the first turn and did not finish the moto.

The next event at Raceway Park will be held Saturday, April 22, with round two of the Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Series being held on Sunday.
