Carsten Cleans Up at Raceway Park

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – With the torrential rains and thick mud of opening day still on their minds, many racers let the morning showers of March 26 keep them snug and warm, still in their beds. But the nearly 300 riders who did show up were treated to excellent track conditions. Sure, they had to wait through some showers and sleet. Yes, sleet. Eventually, though, the sun finally came out, and the track conditions turned ideal.

Fresh off of the AMPed Mobile Supercross Tour, Bromley Suzuki-sponsored Barry Carsten (84) made his first trip to Raceway Park this season a profitable one by winning all six motos he entered. Carsten claimed the overall victories in the 125cc, 250cc, and Over 30 Expert classes. Carsten’s wins did not come without battles in almost each moto, as the RRP/Crossroads Powersports-sponsored duo of Ty Wallace and Ronnie Stewart and Wheels Motorsports Honda rider Jimmy McIlvaine showed Carsten that the local boys won’t roll over that easily for the nationally ranked rider.

Carsten wasn’t the only multiple-class winner on the day. Central Jersey Cycles-sponsored Husqvarna rider Bryan Wallace showed how competitive the Swedish brand can be by taking the overall class victories in both the 125cc and 250cc Amateur classes. Kawasaki rider Mike Lacerenza won both the 125cc Novice and Schoolboy Four-Stroke classes, and Suzuki/Fly/Scott-sponsored Nick Desiderio scored victories in the 85cc (7-11) and Junior Mini classes.

The next race weekend, April 8 and 9, will be a busy one, with Youth (4-6) racing on Saturday morning, round one of the Trapani Pit Bike Series on Saturday night, and a full schedule of racing on Sunday. Will the April showers stay away? Come on down and enjoy the action!
